A lot of new technologies are starting to affect the construction industry but their impact has not been significant so far due to slow adoption.
Indeed, despite the promises of these new approaches, the construction industry seems happy to continue to operate the traditional pen & paper way.
Today’s leading tech trends include:
- Drones
- Robotics
- Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)
- Augmented reality
- SaaS solutions
- Mobility and the cloud
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML)
- Sophisticated Sensors
- Advanced materials and techniques
When combined and adopted successfully, those technologies can deliver tremendous efficiency and cost improvement, that ultimately translate into better customer satisfaction.
Of course, not all those technologies are equally applicable to all circumstances, they are just a means to an end.
Applied correctly and they can reliably and consistently solve the most critical pain points.
Or they can equally be just a distraction soon to be forgotten by early adopters.
The most important is usually not the Technology itself, but the case it will be applied to and the support provided to the users to ensure a consistent and sustainable implementation.
Nevertheless, some technologies seem more universal than others.
For instance, technologies supporting the digitalization of the industry, like Software as a Service (SaaS) , mobility and the cloud, APIs can dramatically improve how construction worker operate.
Those new breeds of specialist solutions are so easy and cost effective to test and adopt that there are few reasons not to experiment with them.
